What is Validate, and why do I have to use it?

Written by Sophia

Validate is a way for you to show that your assignment is your own work. Your educator has chosen to use it for this assessment. Being asked to use Validate isn't an accusation. Validate is designed so that every student in a configured assessment goes through it.

Does Validate affect my grade? Validate doesn't mark your work. Your educator marks it, the same way they always do.

Who decides what happens with my result? Your educator. Validate doesn't accuse you of anything or make decisions about your work. If any decision is made, a person makes it.

What do I actually have to do?

  1. Upload a separate piece of your own writing (your writing sample). You only do this once.

  2. When you submit your assignment, answer a few short questions about it.

What is a writing sample, and why do I need one? It's a piece of writing you've done before, such as an earlier essay or report. Validate compares it with your assignment to see whether they read like the same writer.

What counts as a writing sample?

  • It must be your own writing, done without AI.

  • It can't be the assignment you're submitting or an earlier draft of it.

  • It needs to be at least 500 words.

  • Recent work is best.

Do I need to upload a new one for every assignment? No. You only upload it once. You'll see a banner on your Studiosity dashboard asking for it once one of your courses uses Validate.

What are the Q&A questions like?

The questions aren't a quiz or a test on new material, and there are no trick questions. Every question is about your own assignment and gives you a chance to show what you've learned. Expect straightforward questions that ask you to explain your thinking, for example:

  • Briefly summarise the main argument, thesis or conclusion of your paper in your own words.

  • Describe a theory discussed in your assignment.

  • Fill in the blank: "In a landfill, PLA breaks down slowly and can release ______"

What if I make a typo or don't phrase something perfectly? That's fine. Typos and small mistakes don't count against you.

Can I copy and paste my answers? No. Copy and paste is turned off during the questions, unless you have an approved adjustment.

The questions are about your own work, so you won't need to study or prepare anything extra.
