Educators: If a submission lacks the validation "tick" on my dashboard, what do I do next?

A missing tick means the submission is worth a closer look. It isn't a finding of misconduct.

Validate supports your decisions but doesn't make them: it doesn't grade work or decide misconduct, and the final judgement is yours.

We recommend these steps:

  1. Find out why there's no tick. There are a couple of possible reasons:

    • Authorship Continuity "not assessed": The student hasn't uploaded a writing sample, so this check couldn't run. That's a gap in the evidence, not a warning sign.

    • The work is not yet validated: The evidence fell below the Validity Threshold you set for this assessment.

  2. Look at the evidence before you read the work for quality. Open the student's results and check the three signals: Authorship Continuity, Human Factors, and the Cognitive Command Q&A (how the student answered each question). Note where in the document any concerns appear. Read the result against the AI Use Level and Validity Threshold you chose. The threshold is a setting you picked, not a universal line.

  3. Choose a next step. There are three options: mark as usual, offer support, or start with your institution's academic integrity process.
