Validate allows you to show that your assignment is your own work.
Your educator has chosen to use it for this assessment. Being asked to use Validate isn't an accusation. Every student in the assessment goes through the same process.
Does Validate affect my grade?
No. Validate doesn't mark your work. Your educator marks it, the same way they always do.
Who decides what happens with my result?
Your educator does. Validate doesn't accuse you of anything or fail you. If any decision is made about your work, a person makes it.
What do I actually have to do?
Two things:
Upload a separate piece of your own writing (your writing sample). You only do this once.
When you submit your assignment, answer a few short questions about it.
What is a writing sample, and why do I need one?
It's a piece of writing you've done before, such as an earlier essay or report. Validate compares it with your assignment to see whether they sound like the same writer.
What counts as a writing sample?
It must be your own writing, done without AI.
It can't be the assignment you're submitting or an earlier draft of it.
It needs to be at least 500 words.
Recent work is best.
Do I need to upload a new one for every assignment?
No. You only need to upload it once. You'll see a banner on your Studiosity dashboard asking for it once one of your courses has a Validate assignment.
What are the Q&A questions like?
The questions are not a quiz or a test on new material. There are no trick questions. Instead, the questions are entirely about your specific assignment, and give you an opportunity to show your educator what you have learned about your assignment.
You can expect straightforward, reflective questions that ask you to explain your thinking. For example, you might be asked:
Briefly summarise the main argument, thesis, or conclusion of your paper in your own words.
Describe a theory discussed in your assignment.
Fill in the blank: "In a landfill, PLA breaks down slowly and can release ______"
What if I make a typo or don't phrase something perfectly?
That's fine. Typos and small mistakes don't count against you.
Can I copy and paste my answers?
No. Copy and paste is turned off during the questions, unless you have an approved accessibility adjustment.
If you've done the work, you already know all the answers! You won’t need to study or prepare anything extra to self-validate your work.
